When you need to seal something but it does not have a gasket, you can use gasket sealant. Most car and truck manufacturers oppose the use of gasket sealants, mainly because people often use too much. However, sometimes manufacturers will specify gasket sealants (for example, for items such as differential covers and oil pans). This is the best gasket sealant on the market.

Also known as Indian Head (from Permatex products), this sealant is used for cardboard or tissue gaskets under low pressure and low temperature conditions (between 300 and 350 degrees Fahrenheit). This is a non-drying gasket sealant that technicians use under conditions similar to those using shellac, but these sealants can withstand temperatures up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. The high-viscosity sealant is resistant to diesel, propane and kerosene and maintains its viscosity.

These sealants are available in three versions: 1) fast-hardening and quick-drying, 2) slow-drying and brushable, and 3) non-hardening. Each forms a gasket that can withstand temperatures up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Technicians use #1 to install threaded connections and block expansion plugs, and form a seal between the metal-to-metal flanges. They use #2 on paper or cork oil pan washers and neoprene drive pan washers. The technician uses #3 sealant to seal the hose connection. 

Technicians use this type of sealant for cylinder head gaskets and exhaust manifolds. It fills in tiny defects in the metal, thereby providing a clear seal. The metal in the sealant helps dissipate heat and promotes uniform transfer between mating surfaces. These sealants can withstand temperatures up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit and are used for exhaust and cylinder head gaskets. They are easy to remove even after a long time after installation. 

These sealants are usually sold in tubes and are red in color. Technicians use them without an external air source to help dry them. Manufacturers developed them to meet the OEM's need for non-corrosive gasket manufacturers in metal-to-metal conditions. They are used in situations where the gasket cannot be replaced or there is never a gasket. 

RTV and Ultra RTV silicone sealants (room temperature vulcanization, the temperature at which the silicone begins to cure) can work in environments up to 750 degrees Fahrenheit. You can find these in many colors and different models: aerosol cans, tubes and caulking gun cartridges. The color of the sealant indicates heat resistance. Gray, black and blue can reach up to 500 degrees; red and orange can reach up to 650 degrees, and copper can reach up to 750 degrees. Experts recommend using Ultra versions for current electronically controlled vehicles because they are safe to sensors. 

Gasgacinch was established in the United States and has been manufacturing and selling gasket sealants for more than 50 years. The company's iconic "Slip Girl" mascot is based on the intimate girl art of World War II and is well-known worldwide. The design of the mascot can be traced back to the 1950s. Gasgacinch produces gasket sealants for standard car and truck applications, but also produces products for special vehicles such as high-performance cars and motorcycles. It resists grease, gas and oil. You can use it for a variety of aerospace and automotive applications, such as solid gaskets, close-fitting machined surfaces, and sealing hoses. 

Note: Please use this gasket sealant in a well-ventilated area, because the smoke produced by this sealant is very strong. Remember, it does not apply to threads on fuel lines. In addition, some users report that the bottle may leak.

Permatex has several sealants on the market, and The Right Stuff is for automotive use. It can effectively handle components such as water pumps, oil pans, thermostat housings, gearboxes and valve covers. The product has a continuous temperature range of minus 75 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit, and an intermittent range of 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Right Stuff creates an instant, durable and leak-proof seal by creating elastic rubber gaskets. The sealant prevents bursting and prevents leakage and leakage due to thermal expansion and vibration. It cures quickly and produces a somewhat soft but tough and solvent-resistant seal.

This 3M gasket sealant is specially designed for car engines, can cure quickly in place, and is flexible and non-corrosive. It can withstand intermittent temperatures up to 600 degrees Fahrenheit, is oxygen sensor safe, and is water, oil, and glycol resistant. You can use it as a gasket dressing or gasket replacement. The product comes in a 3 ounce tube. 3M high temperature silicone gasket sealant can be used for intake manifolds, oil and gearbox discs, timing chain covers, thermostat housings and valve covers. Simply apply it to a clean and prepared surface area for easy use, and the engine can be started 15 minutes after application. Subaru designated this sealant as an alternative to its OEM sealant.

The biggest complaint about this product is that if you don’t use the entire tube right away, it tends to dry out and harden after a few months of storage. In addition, it is not equipped with a graduated distribution tube, which will make it easier to use.

Bar's Leaks Head Gasket Repair aims to solve the problem of coolant leakage. It combines aramid and fire-resistant fibers to make it both strong and heat-resistant. It penetrates and leaks and forms a stronger seal than the original cylinder head gasket. ThreeBond Engine Silicone Gasket 1211 is a sturdy and durable semi-hardening sealant. It uses silicone rubber and is packed in a 3.5 ounce tube.
